Wat Sothonwararam is a temple in Chachoengsao Province, Thailand. Located in the Municipality of Mueang Chachoengsao alongside the Bang Pakong River, it was initially named ‘Wat Hong,’ and was built in the late Ayutthaya period.
The temple has the ‘Luangpho Phuttha Sothon,’ the revered Buddha image of Chachoengsao province, which is 1.48 metres high, with a lap width of 1.65 metres.Buddhism is a religion and philosophy encompassing a variety of traditions, beliefs and practices, largely based on teachings attributed to Siddhartha Gautama, commonly known as the Buddha.
Wat Sothonwararam is located 2 kilometers southwest of Beiliufu City. There is a noble statue of Suotong Buddha in the temple. According to the local people, when the Great City Dynasty was about to collapse, there were three golden Buddha statues in the kingdom.
In order not to be taken away by the invading Burmese army, all the golden Buddhas were covered with mud and thrown into the river. One of them drifted down the river. It was salvaged and enshrined in the temple!
Wat Sothonwararam is divided into two areas: the old temple and the new one. It is said that the new one was built at a cost of 2.5 billion baht. The temple has special experience and attracts many people to worship it every day. Every Spring Festival, as well as May and December, Beiliufu holds grand ceremonies and Buddhist ceremonies here.
